Big development in both vaccine and industry fields!

Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank said "Türkiye is now one of the 10 countries mass-producing graphene, a material 200 times stronger than steel, hundreds of times more conductive than copper, and equally flexible and light". Regarding domestic vaccine studies, Minister Varank stated that human trials would start in April.

Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank said that studies to develop Türkiye's first 'intranasal' domestic vaccine applied as a nasal spray are continuing. Varank said, "Since the vaccine applied through the nose follows the path where the virus infects people, it is predicted that this technology will fight the virus more effectively. If all clinical stages are completed, we aim to make this new vaccine type available within the year."

Minister Varank attended the opening ceremony of the 'Graphene Mass Production Facility' in Ankara İvedik Organized Industrial Zone. Minister Varank said they were proud to bring an important investment in high technology material production to the country. Stating that advances in material science are one of the main sources feeding game-changing technologies, Varank said, "Graphene, introduced to the world by material science in 2004; aroused great repercussions with its physical, chemical and mechanical properties. This product, which earned its discoverers the Nobel Physics Prize in 2010, is considered one of the greatest material inventions in human history. Because Graphene is a material 200 times stronger than steel, hundreds of times more conductive than copper, and equally flexible and light. With the strength, flexibility, thermal and electrical conductivity properties it exhibits, it can be used in very different industrial areas. As a single atom thick, two-dimensional nano material, it is shown as one of the most critical components of nano technology. Thanks to graphene; longer-lasting materials, ultra-fast charging batteries, faster and lighter aircraft, bionic devices that can connect to neurons in the body can be produced; bioelectronic medical technologies that provide real-time treatment by reading and changing body electricity can be developed; solutions can be brought to corrosion, heating and transmission problems" he said.

'WILL FIGHT THE VIRUS MORE EFFECTIVELY'

Minister Varank reminded that while Nanografi company was carrying out successful works in the field of nano technology, it also started working in the field of vaccines during the pandemic period. Varank said, "Scientists operating under the roof of Nanografi are developing an innovative vaccine type to be applied as a nasal spray, unlike classical vaccines. Türkiye's first intranasal domestic vaccine development studies are continuing with the contributions of the infrastructure, scientific skills and academic experiences of METU, Hacettepe, Gazi and Ankara Universities. This vaccine was designed as protein-based, unlike mRNA and inactive vaccine technology. Since the vaccine applied through the nose follows the path where the virus infects people, it is predicted that this technology will fight the virus more effectively. This vaccine type has the potential to rapidly remodel in case of mutation and strengthen our hand in the possible future course of the epidemic" he spoke.
